Bug Away Repellent

Witch Hazel is disliked by most insects. It is also an excellent bug bite treatment. 

Lemongrass contains citronella which is used in conventional mosquito repellents.  

Catnip is a member of the mint family and will keep away mosquitos, flies, deer ticks and cockroaches. Catnip releases a chemical which causes insects to feel a burning or itchy sensation. Nepetalactone is found in Catnip and has been shown to be more effective than DEET.

Lavender is a great smelling herb but flies and mosquitoes do not like it. A wonderful herb to keep around the house.

Peppermint has a very strong aroma that insects do not like or want to be around.

Yarrow is one of those herbs that should always be on hand, especially if going outdoors. It can stop bleeding almost instantly in addition to repelling insects.

Caution:

If an allergic reaction occurs, stop using immediately.
